There are various ways to develop and raise your self esteem.
Spend time with those who like you and care about you. Stay away from those who put you down or treat you badly. When you can, spend time doing things you enjoy, are good at, and make you happy. Whenever you succeed at something, pat yourself on the back. Learn to appreciate yourself. Try to improve yourself on a daily basis. Don't rely on others' decisions, make your own decisions. Do whatever you think is right. Always be true to yourself and your values. Try to respect others. Always try to set and achieve goals.
Lesson for Young Adolescents
It is necessary to become aware, at a young age, how self esteem affects our daily lives
The types of choices we make in life are related to our level of self esteem
It is necessary to always keep learning new ways to enhance our self esteem
Self Esteem is compared to a bucket full of water. It starts filling when we are born. Whenever we develop negative beliefs about ourselves, it is like making holes in the bucket and eventually our self esteem drips out. To make sure this doesn't happen to you, make a list of your beliefs, negative and positive, and pin it on the wall to serve as a constant reminder of things to improve up and things to congratulate yourself for.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission." This is a good topic of discussion. What does it mean? In what situations have you been in where this holds true?
Another exercise to try is is to watch a television program and write about one of the characters. Did that character exhibit high or low self esteem? If yes, describe how that character's self esteem showed up in his or her personal behavior.
Is there something about yourself that makes you feel good? Describe what it is. How does it affect your self esteem? What message does it give you about yourself?
It is quite simple. Whatever we believe about ourselves reflects in our self esteem. Positive beliefs make us feel good, and raise our self esteem. Negative beliefs make us feel bad, and lower our self esteem.
